The New Music Collective (NMC) is presenting the first decade-long North American conspectus of chamber music by the renowned Los Angeles-based composer and educator Michael Pisaro, a project curated by Jason Brogan and Sam Sfirri. A three-part event featuring Pisaro will take place at 701 Center for Contemporary Art on September 20. All three segments of Pisaro’s performance, carried out in collaboration with Columbia-based percussionist Greg Stuart, are open to the public
From 3:30 – 6:30 p.m. there will be a stereo installation of “ricefall” (2007), consisting of 64 pre-recorded tracks of rice falling on a variety of materials. Simultaneously, two musicians will perform “Exchange” (2000). During the installation, members of the public are invited to come and go as they please and their is no charge for admission.
The second segment of the program, a discussion with Pisaro about his music and its place within the American experimental music tradition, will begin at 7:00 p.m. and last about 45 minutes.
The final portion of the event is a formal concert featuring a new work by Pisaro and two older works, “Harmony Series” (2004-2006) and “The Collection” (2000).
The concert will begin at 8 p.m.; admission is $8 for 701 CCA members, $10 non-members, $5 students with ID.
