For the last several years I’ve made paintings and prints based on places that I find deeply engaging and mysterious: Edisto Island and the Congaree Swamp. There is a sense of fragility to these landscapes that comes both from the play of natural forces and the threatened encroachment of human “development.” During regular walks and paddling trips into these areas, I make source materials–sketches and photographs–that respond to the light, atmosphere, weather and passage of time.
