God's Play Ground

My mother once told me "Sometimes she felt like she didn't have no life." That statement made with so much honesty, conviction, & passion--yet free of even a hint of self-pity--has, throughout my career, been one of my guiding principles. She survived & passed her legacy of love, compassion, hope & a sense of "doing the right thing" on to her children. My work finds its foundation in that legacy. It refers to the trials of youth & the struggle of the aged. It seeks to speak to & for those with no voice. My work is compassion, hope, justice, & perseverance: things I learned from my mother. 312 Deer Run Rd. Elgin, SC 29045 (803) … [Read more...]

Day-detail

My life is composed of tiny fragments of color, texture & form. My paintings are an extension of my faith & my connections. I'm obsessed with creating. My goal is to bring this about through visual sophistication that is sensitive to the heart. Art is an outward expression of my feelings & thoughts. Sometimes its links are strong enough with someone else that they feel the connection. Not everyone can or should make that connection but when they do, it is deeply satisfying to me & to the viewer. 700 Columbia Ave. Irmo, SC 29063 (803) 622-3444 http://timfloydart.com Directions: From the State Capitol in Columbia, take Gervais Street (U.S. 1) west and turn right on … [Read more...]

Never Again

My art is my therapy. Working in clay makes me feel like a kid. Photography was my first love; it comes naturally for me. It’s all about framing, composition, and light. I taught Art in the Lowcountry Public Schools and private lessons at Island Girl Studio. After a diagnosis of MS, I retired, then relocated to Columbia. I have participated in regional festivals, shows and exhibits, including Spoleto. Everyone wants to be pretty

I work in porcelain and stoneware clays, making sculptures that just simply make you want to smile--dogs of all sorts in a tangled ball or a monkey dressed for a night on the town. I also do work with the human figure--faces, hands and torsos which are a neo-tribal synthesis of ancient motifs. My work has been featured in shows in Rock Hill, Anderson, Columbia, Charleston & Beaufort, SC as well as New York City. I am represented exclusively by CityArt in Columbia and am quite excited to now also have work showing in the Chicago area. I work in oils, pastels, and I batik using watercolors. My oils and pastels are realistic and my batiks, while of structures and things found in nature, are more impressionistic. I paint portraits, landscapes and still lifes and have won awards for my oils and watercolor batiks. I am also known for my military paintings, which I have made into prints to raise monies for charities that benefit military families. I work in color and black and white photography. I have recently completed a series of botanical photographs (www.theartofdaylilies.com) which feature the abstract patterns and colors of nature. My interest in fine art photography resulted in the production of fine art photographs which deal with the natural world. Releasing the Catch

Technique feeds off of itself, and provides my inspiration. Rather than symbolic or thematic issues, the possibilities of technique are my greatest influence. Technique gives my images many voices, allowing my painting to speak to a person in incalculable ways. It is my technique that gives feeling to my painting, whether it is a sense of oneness with my landscapes, the mercurial feel of voyeurism in my figures, or the welcoming intensity to my interiors. 1700 Stillwater Dr. Columbia, SC 29212 (803)665-2440 http://www.robshawartist.com Directions: From the State Capitol in Columbia, take Gervais Street (U.S. 1) to Assembly St to Elmwood to I-26. Tree of Life

I am currently working on two series of sculptures, "Animals within Nature" (animals are characters in a narrative of ancient mythology, fairy tales or dreams) and "Food as Symbols" (food is more then just to be consumed; it can hold meaning--I research the historical, cultural or emotional connection of food). These sculptures are larger then life to enhance their abstract and surreal nature. Art, for me, is more then the making of objects; it is the searching and learning that holds my interest. Dance, Light & Dark

Because I came to painting in oil and pastel through a love of drawing and children's literature, my work often takes on the qualities of illustration. I cannot help but tell a story, even in those more abstract pieces. My figurative work focuses on the emotions and moods of human relationships; my landscape paintings reveal my response to the beauty and power of the natural world. Line, value and color are key elements.
