  with participation in Libera Me, the Artista Vista lantern parade Create your own shelter lantern under the guidance of 701 CCA’s Dutch artist in resident Janke Klompmaker and participate in the Artista Vista group performance and lantern parade Libera Me on April 21, 8:00 p.m. Build your dream shelter or spirit house using Klompmaker’s template of a “house lantern.” You will design an create your own lantern, cutting see-through shapes into the paper and embellishing your creation with feathers, beads, button, strings, twigs, glitter and whatever else you can think of. Kristy Bishop: Bound

January 15 – February 28, 2016 Noted South Carolina textile artist Kristy Bishop will be making her second appearance at 701 Center for Contemporary Art. A native of Charleston, Bishop was 701 CCA’s Artist in Residence this past fall. She was also selected for inclusion in the 701 CCA South Carolina Biennial 2015. Bishop’s work undertaken during her residency will be featured in a solo exhibition at the Center that opens on Friday, January 15th, 2016. Kristy Bishop

Meet Kristy Bishop 701 CCA's Artist in Residence August 10 – November 9, 2015   I create fiber works composed of silk that are dyed in a range of colors extracted from plant sources. These range from plants that I have cultivated to ones that are gathered from roadsides or recently disturbed areas common to the suburban sprawl landscape. I spend many days cooking plants, dyeing fabric, and creating my palate. The dyed silk is treated like strokes of paint, woven or sewn into a larger gradient. confined to a greater geometric shape.
