701 CCA Calls Artists for the 701 CCA South Carolina Biennial 2015

      701 Center for Contemporary Art now seeks submissions for the 701 CCA South Carolina Biennial 2015, the center's third survey exhibition of work by contemporary South Carolina artists. The exhibition will be held at 701 Center for Contemporary Art in Columbia. The 701 CCA S.C. Biennial 2015 will be presented in two parts with openings in September and November. 701 CCA Summer Art Workshops – Summer 2015 Sign up your young artist today! This Summer, 701 Center for Contemporary Art presents its fifth Youth Summer Art Workshops. Children and teens ages 6 to 17 have the opportunity to get hands-on experience in the arts, creating artwork under the guidance of local artists and art instructors. Students are able to work in ceramics, painting and drawing, try their hand at print making and much more! IN MEMORIAM: ETHEL S. BRODY 1923 – 2014

Columbia artist and art patron Ethel Brody, née Sobel, an early and steadfast supporter of 701 Center for Contemporary Art, passed away on     Sunday, October 5, 2014. Ethel was 90 years old; her health had been in decline for several years. As 701 CCA board members, staff and volunteers,  our thoughts are with Ethel’s family and friends, whom we wish all the strength they need. Our grief about Ethel’s passing is eased by our memory of her life and actions and our everlasting gratitude for her tremendous support for 701 CCA. 701 Center for Contemporary Art Announces the 701 CCA Prize 2014 Finalists

    701 Center for Contemporary Art in Columbia, S.C., is excited to announce that the finalists for the 701 CCA Prize 2014 are Andrew Blanchard of Spartanburg, Shannon Lindsey of Columbia and Karen Ann Myers of Charleston. The 701 CCA Prize 2014 is a competition and exhibition for South Carolina artists 40 years and younger. The three finalists’ work will be shown in the 701 CCA Prize 2014 Exhibition, which will open Thursday, October 30, 2014, with an artists’ reception, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., and run through December 21.
