2 Quick Social Media Marketing Tips:

1. Facebook
If you haven’t already created a separate Page for your business as an artist (different from your personal Profile), now is the perfect opportunity! A Facebook Page is one of the most cost-effective and truly useful marketing tools out there, in part because the Greater Columbia, SC cultural community uses Facebook heavily! We will be posting an album of all COS artists’ work on the 701 Center for Contemporary Art page ( as well as tagging COS artists in posts with links to each artist’s Page. If you have a Page, we can tag it in photos and posts! Just email us your link, and we’re in business.

How to create a Page in Facebook:

2. Twitter
Twitter has been adopted very heavily in the Midlands and has become quite the useful word of mouth tool!

Even if you don’t yet “get” Twitter, just sign up for a username. (This is also an act of claiming your online real estate. If your name is taken, try it followed by SC, like @fivepointssc.)

We would love to be able to @mention you on Twitter — and by @mention, we mean tag your “handle” in a tweet, e.g. if someone were to mention 701 CCA in a tweet, they might say, “The SC Biennial Part 2 show at @701CCA is terrific!” What this does is expose *our* network of Twitter followers to *your* brand as an artist. One of our targeted followers might click through to check out your Twitter profile — and if you make sure to put a link to your website or Facebook page in your Twitter profile bio, then they’ll find your work! Boom.

All you have to do is go to and then email us your username. And go hit “Follow” at We’ll follow back!

(Thus concludes our miniature marketing seminar. Thank you!)
