PAAL NILSSEN-LOVE'S LARGE UNIT
Paal Nilssen-Love has been one of the world’s most prolific and active musicians that came out of Norway for the last 20 years. With thousands of gigs and hundreds of recordings the drummer is known for bands like The Thing, OffOnOff, Ballister, Hairy Bones, Chicago Tentet, and Original Silence, as well as collaborations with musicians like Arto Lindsay, Otomo Yoshihide, Akira Sakata, Ken Vandermark, Jim O’Rourke, Peter Brötzmann, Thurston Moore, Michiyo Yagi and many others.

Jane Allen Nodine: Artist Talk + Q&A
To close out SC.FELLOWS Part II, the S.C. Arts Commission and 701 CCA present an artist talk, followed by Q&A, from fellowship recipient and artist Jane Allen Nodine. SC.FELLOWS Part II is the second installment of a two-part exhibition featuring the work of 78 artists who received S.C. Arts Commission Visual Arts & Craft Fellowships since the inception of the program in 1976.
Jane Allen Nodine will bring additional artworks to show, while discussing her work, her process, and her career. The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required.
Jane Allen Nodine is University Gallery Director and Distinguished Professor Emerita at the University of South Carolina Upstate where she served as head of the art program for over twenty years. Jane's career spans several decades and in 1999 she was selected by the South Carolina State Museum and the South Carolina Arts Commission as one of the One Hundred Most Significant Artists in South Carolina During the 20th Century.

Yvette L. Cummings: Uncovered
Yvette Cummings Arendt of Conway, SC was our 2016 701 CCA Prize winner. She will be completing the second half of her residency at 701 CCA in May. The first half was completed in May of 2017. Her current body of work presents a moment of transition between experiences of recalled child abuse and the dynamics of motherhood. She explores the relationships her daughters have with one another and the complicated path of youth, beauty, and femininity. The struggles of adolescence include navigating the dynamics of family, sibling rivalry, and transitions into adulthood.
This solo exhibition will feature work created throughout the duration of Cummings’ residency that explores themes outlined in detail above. The show will be comprised of two-dimensional paintings and installations.

Fifth Annual Young Artists Festival
The Young Artist's Festival is a three hour gathering of summer art camps in the Columbia area that highlights and introduces the various summer camp programs. Participating camps in all disciplines including music, dance, media, theatre and visual arts offer interactive experiences, exhibitions, performances and collateral materials to highlight their programs. 701 CCA also plans to incorporate STEAM workshops into its summer camp offerings which will be highlighted during the festival. This family friendly event celebrating young artists, ages 6 to 17, will feature performances from local arts organizations, an exhibition of works by 701 CCA summer camp participants, games and crafts stations where children can create new works of art!
