Class Description:
From molds and deckles to pigments and dyes, ‘Get Pulped’ explores the magical world of hand papermaking. During this 4 hour class, you will learn about molds and deckles, making your own pulp from recycled waste and plant fibers, using and mixing additives, and sheet forming. The class will explore the wonders of creating decorative paper through the use of pigments, natural dyes, flowers, seeds, and thread. The possibilities with paper are unlimited, and this workshop focuses on creating sheets to write on, paint on, and/or frame as an original art piece. Papermaking is a sustainable practice that invites us to slow down and enjoy the ambience of the craft. This class is designed for all levels. Feel free to bring old receipts/scraps of paper, flowers, dead leaves, or a disposable small object to add to your exploration of paper!
Kate Timbes is an interdisciplinary artist from South Carolina whose work investigates the narrative and functions of materiality. Working primarily in sculpture, painting, and video, she weaves mediums together, carrying objects, paint, seeds, weavings and sculptural handmade paper through physical, emotional, and digital landscapes. Timbes contemplates sourcing of resources, rethinking use as an individual effort to engage in a curious ecological practice. Timbes has exhibited her work nationally and internationally, with recent exhibitions at the Koger Center for the Arts Morgan Paper Conservatory, Visalia Arts Center, the Richardson Family Art Gallery, and the DIS Student Hub in Copenhagen, Denmark. She also teaches papermaking workshops across North Carolina and South Carolina, passionate about sharing resources and education around craft. In addition to her studio practice, Timbes manages her business, Woven Studios and creates public artworks to engage with local communities, social histories, and urban spaces. Timbes received her BA in Studio Art from Wofford College in 2023 and completed a Work-Study Fellowship at Arrowmont School of Craft in 2025. She teaches papermaking workshops in SC and NC, runs her small business, Woven Studios, and is a current member of Zero Space Collective.
