From Pigment to Paint: A history of pigments and how to make your own oil paint.

In this special 1-day workshop taught by our Artist in Residence, Katelyn Chapman, participants will learn how to make their own oil paints from scratch! Through this process you will uncover the origin stories of color through an art historical lens and more specifically, the history of the five different all natural and non-toxic pigments that we will be using in this unique workshop. From the step-by-step process of breaking down natural materials into powdered pigment, to mixing that pigment with binding medium, students will create their own oil colors.

Each student will go home with 5 tubes of their own hand-made oil paint.

No experience is required.

Class time: 10am-3pm (with a half hour lunch break in between)

Bring your lunch or stop by a local restaurant (Enzos and Village Idiot are within walking distance!).

Workshop will take place in the Artist Residence Loft, Suite 205, Upstairs, 701 Whaley St., Columbia, SC.

$75 members, $100 non-members.
