South Carolina Biennial 2023 Part II

Curator's Statement

701 CCA is delighted to announce the selected artists for the 2023 SC Biennial. This is the seventh survey of South Carolina art taking place at 701 Center for Contemporary Art. The Biennial presents some of the best contemporary art produced statewide and is a juried, multimedia exhibition.

Acceptance to the 701 CCA South Carolina Biennial 2023 was based on a competitive selection process. Contemporary artists living in South Carolina were invited via a public call to submit both images of their recent artwork and documentation of their career to 701 CCA. An independent jury of three art professionals reviewed all submissions, selecting 24 artists out of a total of about 114 applications.

The Jurors were Lauren Jackson Harris, an independent curator, fine art management professional; Bob Monk, director of Gagosian Gallery NYC + LA; and Aaron Levi Garvey, Chief Curator of the Andy Warhol Museum

The Biennial 2023 is presented in two parts, with openings in November and January. The second part of 701 CCA's Biennial 2023 reception is on Friday, January 12, 6-8 pm, remaining on view through February 25, 2024, at 701 CCA.

Exhibitions Part I and II both feature works created on a variety of media--oil or acrylic on canvas, photography, inkjet print, woodcut, mixed media, and three-dimensional art--by 12 local contemporary artists.

Exhibition Hours: Thursday - Sunday, 1- 5 PM
