An Interactive Experience with Artist-In-Residence Tyrone Geter

Please join our Artist-In-Residence, Tyrone Geter in the studio and exhibition space on June 10th to experience the development of his new series titled, Brave New World.
Geter has spent years creating works investigating the emotional relationship between humanity and the environment. Having spent extensive time in The Gambia, Nigeria, and South Carolina Geter captured photographs and sketches of the landscape and community and journeyed to develop a series of large-scale charcoal drawings that he will complete in the duration of his tenure as Artist in Residence at 701 Center of Contemporary Art.
During the residency, he will be positioning completed works and works in progress around the gallery to develop a strong visual narrative of the contradictory relationship between man and Earth. Stories of hope and fear, loss and love, as well as helplessness and determination will ebb and flow as the works interchange the gallery walls over the next six weeks.
For him to complete this body of work, he is seeking community engagement to help him define the story. Visitors are encouraged to discuss, engage, and critique the layout of the works, and in some cases, help transition the new layouts. Join us on Saturday for this inaugural experiment, blurring the lines between workspace and public space, between solitary discovery and collective inspiration. This will be an enriching experience for the artist, the community, and 701 Center for Contemporary Art, alike.
